VSA Select Program
Select soccer is for players that wish to be in a more structured environment with players of similar commitment levels, technical, and/or physical abilities.  Unrestricted tryouts are held in early June to determine teams.  Invites from unrestricted tryouts for U11 through U13 age divisions may be issued on or after 8:00 A.M. of June 20th of each seasonal year.  Invites from unrestricted tryouts for U14 and above age divisions may be issued on or after 8:00 A.M. of July 1st of each seasonal year.  All teams are coached by the VSA Professional Coaching staff. Every effort is made to announce coaching assignments during tryouts.  All professional coaches have experience playing and/or coaching soccer at a high level and an emphasis is placed on continuing education throughout the coaches’ tenure with our club.

• Training: 3 practices per week and will take place at the VSA of Waukee complex
• Games: IPSL games* on weekends versus other select teams from Iowa and possibly Nebraska; 2-4 tournaments (usually in-state with a stronger likelihood of out-of-state travel for older teams) per season.
• Travel: Most games take place in the metro area with some travel requirements taking teams to larger neighboring cities (for example, Cedar Rapids) within the state.  No overnight accommodations are necessary for league games.  Travel to out-of-town tournaments generally requires a minimum one-night stay.
• Focus: Learn & develop personal character traits such as commitment to excellence, perseverance, focused drive and directed passion to succeed.  This is done through attention to detail in develop technical and physical soccer skills, and decision-making skills with the mental fortitude to overcome adversity; all the while developing team camaraderie with passion for competing to maximize individual and team performance excellence.
• Season: Fall – mid August to early November; Winter – December to mid March; Spring late March to early June.  Some teams’ seasons will follow a different pattern of emphasis especially as they get older and/or reach higher levels of team success.
